Our Voice. Our Vote. Our County.

I Am Oakland County is a community-led, non-partisan organizing effort bringing neighbors together to advocate for transparency, accountability, and funding priorities that reflect our values. As individuals, many of us had been showing up at meetings, reaching out to elected officials, and speaking up for our neighbors. On April 8, 2026, it became clear that the Oakland County Commission was not listening.

At that meeting, led by Oakland County Board Chair Dave Woodward, the commissioners approved a Flock Safety surveillance drone program— known as “Project Prove It” — without allowing concerned citizens to give public comment before the vote.

That’s not how democracy is supposed to work.

So we decided to do something about it. That's when I Am Oakland County was formed. We deserve a County Commission Chair who values our voices and protects our civil liberties. If Chair Woodward is unwilling to do that, we decided to build our collective voice to recall him.

Recalls require real work and we've been hard at it. Our recall petition language was officially approved by the Oakland County Election Commission on April 27, 2026, only 19 days after the Flock drone vote. However, Dave Woodward has now sued our own Oakland County Election Commission and we are awaiting a decision from the Oakland County 6th Circuit Court before we can proceed. This legal action has not only delayed the recall, but also cost the taxpayers money as the Election Commission needed to hire outside counsel for their defense.

But we're not stopping.

We're showing up at commission meetings, growing our volunteer base, and building the campaign we'll need to see this through. The recall may be delayed — but our resolve isn't.
