How we'll do it

1. Continue to build community

We've built an amazing community full of involved residents who have attended commission and committee meetings, made public comments, emailed commissioners, spread the word on social media, and donated their time and money to I Am Oakland County. That's how change begins: neighbors working together to make a difference. We're going to continue our community building by hosting community conversations and social hours across the county to hear what residents need and to connect people who care about the same issues.

2. Hold Oakland County commissioners accountable

Every month, we'll be in the room. Our team will attend the monthly commission meeting, track what's on the agenda, listen to public comment, and record how each commissioner votes.

Then we'll tell you what happened, in plain language.

Meeting recaps. After each meeting, we'll share what the public asked for and what the commission actually did. No jargon, no digging through minutes.

Monthly performance reviews. Each month, we'll publish a review showing how every commissioner did on our three values:

  • Pro-privacy: Did they protect residents' data and rights, or fund expanded surveillance?

  • Pro-people: Did their votes reflect what residents needed and asked for?

  • Pro-Democracy: Did they support transparency, open meetings, and meaningful public input?

You'll be able to see how your commissioner voted, on which issues, and whether they listened to the public.

Our goal is a public record residents can rely on. Voters deserve to know how their representatives acted, not just what they said during campaign season. This record will also guide where we focus our recruitment and campaign efforts heading into 2028.

3. Recruit candidates & train them to win

Campaigns cost money, and grassroots candidates shouldn't be shut out because they lack connections. Through $19 for 19, everyday residents pool small donations to fund I Am Oakland County. We'll use those funds to help recruit 19 values-driven Oakland County Commission candidates for 2028, train them and their teams, and support them in winning their races.
